Windows Phone 7 App Numbers

Windows Phone 7 App Numbers

Microsoft has released new figures for its Windows Phone Marketplace which has now been open for business for one year.

Microsoft reports that over 36,000 people and companies now form its Windows Phone community with another 1200 joining each week.

Windows Phone Marketplace currently lists over 11,500 apps of which 7,500 are paid apps.

"Based on the conversations we are having with some of our developers, many are telling us that they are seeing more revenue on our platform than competing platforms, despite the fact that we cannot yet match the sheer number of handsets being sold," Brian Watson recently wrote for the Windows Phone Developer blog.

Windows marketplace of course lags behind Android Market with its 200K apps and the Apple Store with its 300K apps. However, with the new Nokia and Windows agreement to work jointly on Windows Phone / Nokia smartphones it will be interesting to see what happens over the next 12 months.
